Beginning HTML and CSS

I really enjoyed this resource. I worked through the entirety of "Head First HTML and CSS." This is an excellent resource for learning both HTML and CSS for a beginner. By the time you complete working through the whole book you are comfortable working with a basic text editor and understanding the structure of HTML and how to incorporate Style with CSS. You can build your own website by the time your finished. Of course it by no means will teach everything, but it will give you all the basics and head you in the right direction. This book comes with a strong recommendation and the price is great!

Adobe Illustrator CS4

Adobe Illustrator CS4 Classroom In A Book published by Adobe themselves is an excellent choice for someone who is wondering which to choose from when looking at the plethora of books that are available. Though I do find having a couple books in ones possession for each program can be desired, this should be your first book! It is both for the beginner and as well for an intermediate as it will round it out those items that one could miss just learning it on your own. Through out the book it has helpful hints explaining the various options for each desired objective for your creations. This is a classroom in a book! Each chapter you work through projects creating particular graphics there by getting a real grasp on all the possibilities Illustrator offers!

3 Web Development Associations

I have been doing some research and have found 3 different associations for web developers. Here they are comparing them to each other.

1. Web Developers Association of America.
  • Membership is free. To join you must add them in to your web page.
  • No newsletter available
  • The Web Developers Association of America™ is an association made up of web developers from all over the United States. Their mission is to educate and advance the web development industry within the United States. They review a thousand websites a year and post your link on their website. This seems like a very limited Association as far as resourcing goes!

2. Association of Web Design Professionals
  • Membership is free.
  • www.awdp.org, Communications house 26 York street, London, W1U 6PZ
  • No apparent newsletter, though does have a news section on site.
  • The AWDP has been established to offer professionals, from the rapidly growing digital media sector, a forum for advice, support and assistance and to provide businesses with a dedicated resource in their search for a professional web design partner. They really stress interaction between members to help support each other through their forums.

3. National Association of Web Designers and Developers
  • Membership is $500 a year for individuals
  • www.nawdd.org, 815 N. Royal Street Suite 1010 Alexandria, VA 22314 USA Phone: 703-548-3433
  • There is a newsletter available. To subscribe simply enter in email on bottom of site.
  • NAWDD is a trade association that advocates on behalf of more than 9,100 web designers and web developers to promote and share industry best practices. NAWDD provides training, certification, and a referral system for members to use in furthering their careers. In my opinion this association as just to expensive for a beginning company!
